The Adrar, Chinguetti, the Banc d'Arguin: planning a trip to Mauritania.
The country at a glance
Discover Mauritania
A link between the Maghreb and West Africa, Mauritania is almost entirely covered by the Sahara. People come for the Adrar, its dunes and its old caravan towns, and for the wild coastline of the Banc d'Arguin, where migratory birds are counted in the millions.
Travel to the border areas of the east and north is advised against. Check the travel advice of your own government and of France Diplomatie (the French foreign ministry's travel advice) before making any plans.
