Algeria
Algiers, the Roman sites, the M'Zab Valley and the Sahara: planning a trip to Algeria.
The country at a glance
Discover Algeria
The largest country in Africa, Algeria stretches from the Mediterranean to the heart of the Sahara. The north lines up coastal cities, the mountains of Kabylie and some of the best preserved Roman sites in the Mediterranean basin; the south has some of the most spectacular desert landscapes in the world, from the Tassili n'Ajjer to the Hoggar. Tourism remains low key, which is also part of its charm.
Travel to the border areas of the south and east is advised against. Check the travel advice of your own government and of France Diplomatie (the French foreign ministry's travel advice) before making any plans.
