Among the Akan peoples (Baoulé, Agni, Abron and others), the yam festival opens the eating of the new harvest: the chief and elders receive the first yams, with prayers and libations to the ancestors, followed by dancing, drumming and parades. Each village sets its own date. Note that France Diplomatie (the French foreign ministry's travel advice) formally advises against travel to the north of the Zanzan district.
