March 29 marks the death of Barthélemy Boganda, founding father of the Republic, in a plane crash in 1959. Wreaths are laid in Bangui and at his mausoleum in Bobangui, in the Lobaye prefecture. It is a public holiday. The French foreign ministry advises against all travel to the country, except Bangui and Bimbo, where it advises against travel unless essential.
